DOODLE LAB

A practical skill-development training course, aimed to ignite people’s natural creative thinking while introducing them to basic doodling skills and techniques. Hopefully, by the end of it, you will find people on their knees drawing like they used to!

Time Frame
3 hours

PURPOSE

  • Introducing the concept and field of visual thinking
  • Learning basic drawing skills
  • Practicing doodling in the moment
  • Exploring how doodling could be applied and used in different contexts
  • Having fun :)  

LEARNING OUTCOMES

  • Each participant will have the beginnings of a personal visual vocabulary
  • Begin to develop a feel for their own visual style
  • Have confidence in doodling and drawing, also in a professional context 

    VISUAL NOTE-TAKING

    A practical skill-development training course, aimed to enrich the experience of listening and “note-taking” by learning some of the tools of Visual Harvesting i.e. active listening, basic doodle skills and metaphors.

    • Generating a sense of ownership of the vision 
    • Gaining insight on how to design the journey to success 
    • Generating momentum to positive action

    • Basic visualising techniques 
    • Inquiry method for getting clearer on underlining assumptions and beliefs  

      BRING IDEAS TO LIFE

      A hands-on session focusing on the process and importance of creating clarity, as an individual, a team or an organisation. Throughout the day we explore what it means to ‘conceptualise’ i.e. to spark life and shape into abstract ideas and turn them into ‘something’, and, how different methodologies and exercises can support us in creating tangible (visual) artefacts.

      PURPOSE

      • Introducing the concept of ‘Clarity’ and Think Visual’s approach to it i.e. why is this in the core of what we do?
      • Having a personal experience of bringing an idea to life, the power it has, and the advantages
      • Exploring the new learning through a few possible methodologies which can support a process of ‘conceptualisation’

      LEARNING OUTCOMES

      • An understanding of Think Visual’s approach to ‘Clarity’ and why it is important
      • Ability to apply 2-3 methodologies which can be used to translate ideas into tangible artefacts 

        METAPHORICALLY SPEAKING

        A practical skill-development training course, aimed to ignite people’s natural aptitude to communicate with metaphors and channel that to a series of exercises where participants will explore how to translate abstract concepts into tangible artefacts.

        PURPOSE

        • Introducing the concept of metaphors and the connection between metaphors, visualisation, and effective communication 
        • Exploring how metaphors could be applied and used in different contexts
        • Applying the new learning of metaphors to a tangible task, one which involves bringing abstract concepts to life
        • Having fun :)  

        LEARNING OUTCOMES

        • A renewed understanding and awareness of what metaphors are and how to use them 
        • An experience in using metaphors (and visualisation) to translate abstract concepts into tangible artefacts

          HUMAN CENTERED DESIGN

          A crash training course in the core of a unique approach to problem solving - Human Centered Design (also known as HCD). This training course will focus on the first step in HCD which is to thoroughly understand the people you’re designing or creating solutions for. We will explore the theory of why you should involve people in the first place and practise methods and tools which allow us to do it in an effective and engaging way.

          PURPOSE

          • Introducing the scary concept of ‘empathy’ and relating it through practise to a current challenge or a problem    
          • Experiencing looking at problems from perspectives which are not our own 

          LEARNING OUTCOMES

          • An understanding of HCD and it’s three main phases 
          • Ability to design and conduct interviews with individuals, which help to gather relevant input for a given challenge 
          • To be inspired to approach situations differently and feel comfortable looking at things from other perspectives 

            THE POWER OF STORIES

            Are stories the new oil? An engaging introduction to the story and its potential. Learning where to find stories, how to collect them and use them for various purposes. The session will focus on three main areas: Stories as raw materials - what information is held in our individual and collective stories; Methods for extracting stories - such as the art of asking questions, World Café and more, and Story weaving - how can we use visual tools and artefacts to synthesise and integrate stories.

            PURPOSE

            • Understanding of the stories and their potential
            • Knowledge and confidence to apply methods for extracting stories 
            • Learning how to connect and synthesise stories to enhance engagements

            LEARNING OUTCOMES

            • Ability to use stories in a fitting context and setting  
            • Knowledge of how to extract stories 
            • Know basic stories components
            • Be a better active listener
            • Have a basic understanding of story synthesis 

              INFOGRAPHIC THINKING

              A practical skill-development training course, giving non-designers the basics of infographics, design elements and principles through hands-on and playful experience.

              3 hours

              PURPOSE

              • Introducing people to the rich world of design and its basic tools 
              • Creating a safe space for exploring basic design tools and practicing that new language
              • Empowering people to step into creativity in a safe and playful way 
              • Introducing people to basic infographic creation skills

              LEARNING OUTCOMES

              • Clearly understand the basic principles of infographics and be able to analyse the difference between effective and ineffective examples
              • Have familiarity with the design thinking process
              • Confidently plan the pre-design stages for creating successful infographics
              • Have a basic understanding of the range of design principles, elements and layouts
              • Translate data statements into engaging infographics
